TIKO COUNCIL: HRH DR PETER IKOME MESOSO III, THE SHEPHERD OF THE GATEWAY CITY

Maire TIKO

A track record that speaks for itselfmaire

It is no coincidence. The Mayor of Tiko has just won for the 3rd consecutive time the AFRIk-INFORM Award for Best Mayor of the South West Region, with over 80% of the population’s votes.

The ceremony took place on June 28, 2025 at the Krystal Palace in Douala, in the presence of Members of Parliament and top State dignitaries. An award that rewards management focused on proximity development.

The builder of the Gateway City

Since his arrival at the head of the municipal executive, Tiko has been changing its face. Despite the difficult security context of the Anglophone crisis, the Mayor has stayed on course:

– Realistic and performing budget: Over 1.84 billion FCFA voted for 2024, balanced between recurrent and investment.

– Opening up of neighbourhoods: Construction of culverts to link quarters, rehabilitation of earth roads, maintenance of urban roads.

– Sanitation and urban order: Improvement of garbage collection, development of the market and Motor Park to boost council revenue.

– Proximity governance: An approach that goes from villages to quarters and to the entire municipality.

As his constituents say: « Tiko is leaving the history of underdevelopment and administrative nonchalance for a new era of administrative attention. »

A traditional and modern leader

As a Paramount Chief (HRH), Dr Mesoso embodies this dual legitimacy: traditional and republican. This is his strength in maintaining cohesion between the Bakweri and Douala communities cohabiting in Tiko, a town that symbolizes national unity.

Manager, unifier, builder, HRH Dr Peter Ikome Mesoso III remains today the face of Tiko’s renewal.
